An interesting concept, enjoyed the paintings, great to listen to the poetry, especially Tony Curtis’ melodious voice and emotion. Unusual music that was captivating at the start, but where is the happiness and light on the Common. Where was that?
M Parry
The paintings really capture the drama and reality of the valley. Enjoyed the poetry and music also.

St Gwladys Primary School's Visit (Ty Penallta, Ystrad Mynach, 19th September 2012)
I just want to thank you for letting me and my class to come to such a creative exhibition. My favourite painting was the one with the horse that is looking at you. I thought that the use of the different colour greens makes the landscape look real and as if you were really there. I also like the details of the houses in the background that I missed when I first looked at the painting because they are hidden and tucked down the valleys. The painting really felt like it came to life with the accompanying poem. It was exciting to meet a local artist. Diolch yn fawr.
Carly Davies
I think your paintings were amazing and it was great that you gave up your time to show us your work. My favourite picture was the one with St Gwladys’ cross. It caught my eye as there was something about it that was just realistic. It seemed bare and dark and the shadowy mist helped create the atmosphere that is reflected in the music that goes with it. I love the contrast of the lights in the background where it is bright and cheerful which is the opposite of the dark and gloomy rocks in the front. I wish I could paint like you. Thank you for sharing your work and inviting our school to see the exhibition.
Ellie Woods
Thank you for inviting us to come to your exhibition and spending time discussing your artwork as we know that you are really busy. I think the best painting was number 12 because it was different and stood out from the rest of the exhibition. The colours and texture of the sky look like they are really moving and a storm is brewing. I really like the light part of the sky as it makes the rock at the end look magical. The colours that you chose for this painting are good in showing exactly what the landscape is like. I think this is because you have blended lots of colours to show the dark and light. The music and poem for this picture went together beautifully. It was dark and depressing and suited the artwork.
Ross Williams-Griffiths
Thank you for inviting us to your artwork exhibition. The way you paint made me feel like I was actually there as I could feel the weather and the animals that live on Merthyr Common. I think number 5 painting stood out the most because the poem and the music fitted the theme of a dark, cold and misty landscape. In the painting I thought the clouds looked so realistic with the colour mixing and use of darkness and light to make them look like they are moving and that rain is on the way. I like the fact that it is all the tops of the mountains and you can see right in to the distance.
Conor Ellis
Thank you very much for inviting us to your art exhibition in the council offices. We were really grateful that you gave up your time and the hospitality we were given. I especially enjoyed looking at the horse picture because it reminded me of Bargoed mountain with all the wild horses that live there. I think that your use of dark colours for the shadows is detailed and gives the painting meaning. The way you have used colours and the long strokes for the horse’s mane and grass has made it look like the wind is blowing and is very effective.
Daisy Plaister
My favourite picture was of the horse because of all the detail and the colours with hair that was used. The oil paint was used was thick around the horse and the sheep which made them stand out. The sheep looked alive and felt so close to your face. The way you have used a variety of green colours and the direction of the brush strokes for the grass looks as if it is really blowing in the wind. I also really liked the stone St Gwladys cross picture as the grey sky was so dramatic with the use of black and grey blended together. The front of the painting is very dark and scary and feels lonely where the background with the lights in the town looks happy and joyful. I liked number 16’s poem as it was scary with the beat, together with the music and the painting I felt they all matched. Thank you for letting us come to the exhibition and it made it even better because you were there. It was a great experience.
Bevan Jay
Your paintings were fantastic to look at and have inspired me to try that kind of art work. The one painting I like d the most was number 16 because it really spoke to me with the sky explaining the feeling of the picture together with the music. I found the poetry brought it alive and made it real.
Evie Henderson
Thank you for inviting us to your exhibition, we all really enjoyed it. I thought all of the paintings were great. I especially liked the painting of the sheep with the tyres and both paintings of the stones. The last picture of St Gladys cross made me feel like I was in the painting because the oil that you used made it stand out. The lights in the horizon were effective using dots with a light coat of yellow paint which made the lights glow. The music for number 17 went with the picture as it sounded quite mysterious and creepy.
Aimee Evans
It was very kind of you to invite us to a local exhibition of a local place with artwork by a local artist. I felt it was better seeing the art work as you noticed the texture that the oil paint gives. It was a great experience and I enjoyed listening to the music that went with each picture (amazing technology!)

Have just had an amazing time looking at your art work - enjoying the vibrancy of colours, movement and the subject-matter. I have found tone, rhythm and tempo in your art. As a former music teacher, now having an enjoyable struggle trying to acquire some level of expression in painting.
